Congratulations to our head squash coach Martin on being awarded the “Coach of the Year” title at the recent Scottish Squash AGM. This award recognises the great strides that Martin has made in developing a comprehensive junior coaching programme at the club over the past 12 months and also the programme of coaching for seniors that he has also introduced.

Just a reminder that the finals night will be held on Saturday 8th May starting at 5.00 pm.

The order of play, and approximate times, is as follows;

5.00 – Junior Plate – Adam Stark v Mark Connelly
5.40 – Junior Final – Andrew Stark (defending champion) v Struan Grant
6.20 – Senior Final – James Dare v TBC (Chris Patrick, Ross Lawrie or Lee Fraser)

Due to player availability, the Senior Plate final between Michael Grant and Mike Gallagher is scheduled to be played on Thursday 6th May at 8.20 pm.

On Saturday after the conclusion of the matches, all are welcome to stay in the club for a curry and a beer (or two).

Sunday 9th May sees our Under 13 team travelling to Giffnock for their second junior team match.  The match will start at 10.00 AM with a five player team. The players selected for the match are;

Now that the dust has settled on another very successful season for the league teams players are now competing in the annual Club Championships with the final scheduled for April 23rd.

Our head coach Martin Woods is currently in Vienna as team manager for the Scotland under 19 team competing in the European Championships and has as one of his team of 5 our own Morgan Maguire. So far the team have won 1 and lost 1 with Morgan going down 11-9 in the 5th against Finland.

Team training has been moved from Friday to Wednesday to free up court time for members on a Friday night and the junior coaching is taking a rest over the Easter holidays and will be back in full swing from April 19th

Congratulations are due to all teams who played in the West league which has just finished.

The first team finished in 3rd place in Division 1 the highest finish ever by a Strathgryffe team, the second team gained promotion from Division 3 with a 3rd place finish to follow their promotion last year, the 3rd team excelled by winning the vital top of the table clash in the last match of the season to win division 5 and to round of the successes the 4th team won all 10 games in the second half of the season to ensure a 2nd place finish in Division 6 and another team with back to back promotions.

The Club Championships are now about to start so watch out for the draw and put the 23rd April in your diary as the date for the Finals to be played.

With the last league matches of the season to be played on Wednesday 17th all our teams are in great positions in their respective divisions.

The 1st team are heading for a top 3 finish which is an excellent performance given its the first season back in the top flight for a number of years and also that we remain a truly amateur team.

2nd team are lying 2nd and have started planning for next season in Division 2 with an outside chance of winning the league if all results go their way on Wednesday

The third team face a top of the table clash as they strive to win the league having already secured promotion into division 4 when they face Strathclyde Uni who currently sit on top of the table.

The 4th team have have a magnificent second half to the season winning all games so far which has propelled them into 2nd place in the division and with a good result in the last match against Newlands promotion for the send successive year will be assured.

All in all a tremendous performance by everyone who has played team squash this year and also the ranks of spectators who have turned up to support the home matches.
