You are not going to believe this, but guess who made the final of the Gents Handicap Singles? Still not guessed? It was me!!!!. Unfortunately, I lost and my bubble was well and truly burst. However a 5 hour (?) epic match with Kenny was an absolute classic, the baseline slugging contest came down to a game of fitness and unfortunately my arm fell off!! A game of 3 halves and I went down 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Lee Wishart had better watch out for next year, I’m gunning for you Lee!
Anyway, apparently there were a few other games on as well and I think my own efforts were surpassed by a couple of our Juniors, so well done to Lee Wishart and Anna Daisley for winning the main club championship singles titles. Lee managed to win 5 out of 5 finals he was in, including the open gents doubles and open mixed doubles, Anna also won the open ladies doubles with Katherine McPhie (Katherine also partnered Lee in the mixed doubles, so not a bad day for Katherine as well). Finals day was a great success and it was encouraging to see over 100 people down to watch the matches and to the barbecue after. Thanks to the staff for the day and to our tennis committee for organising such a fantastic event. Full results are below.
Did I mention last month that the Squash team beat the Tennis team in the annual golf match? Not sure, I’ll need to check.
The club annual presentation dinner is on Friday the 25th October, still places available but get your tickets reserved, they are going fast.
